Job Description

Gilic Development Inc. is an innovative real estate firm based in Vancouver. This diverse company is vertically integrated with in-house departments responsible for execution of the company’s activities including real estate investment, property development, as well as leasing, sales, and marketing.

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (“CFO”) and Portfolio Manager, the Junior Accountant is responsible for the full cycle accounting, including recording the day-to-day transactions, financial statements preparation, cash flow, budgeting, and analytical support.

This position will mainly focus on the property management and corporate side of the business and will involve administrative duties related to accounting. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical and detail-oriented skills and can strongly work independently as well as part of a team.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities (not limited to):

  • Ensure the accounting system has up-to-date tenant information
  • Generate revenue entries (rent roll) monthly and create miscellaneous charges as needed
  • Record rent payments received and prepare bank deposits
  • Enter account payable invoices in Sage accurately and on a timely basis
  • Process payments to vendors while following company guidelines
  • Record credit card purchases on a timely basis and perform credit card reconciliations monthly
  • Perform administrative duties related to the Accounting department (i.e. opening mail, scanning & filing invoices…etc.)
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliation for all bank accounts
  • Prepare and record journal entries monthly to record amortization and accruals
  • Ensure tax compliance, prepare monthly, quarterly, and annually HST/GST and parking tax filings
  • Update the budget report and cashflow monthly with the current results and assist in analyzing the results to assess company performance
  • Assist in preparation and analysis of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports accurately
  • Effectively communicate financial information to Portfolio Manager and provide financial and analytical assistance as needed
  • Prepare annual CAM reconciliation
  • Assist in preparation of annual budget and ad-hoc management reports as needed

Qualifications & Skills (not limited to):

  • Have 1-3 years of accounting experience, property accounting experience would be an asset
  • Enrolled in CPA PEP or have completed post-secondary education in Accounting or Business
  • Experience with Timberline (Sage 300 CRE) would be an asset
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, with advanced skills in Excel
  • Team player mentality, keeping in mind the big picture and overall success of the organization
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines
